A lesson

The Latin scholars, or Evertonians amongst you, will be familiar with the meaning of nils satis nisi optimum — which (roughly) translates as ‘be satisfied only with the best’. This week, having stretched for a promoted post which would have afforded more responsibility and significantly more financial remuneration, I noted that when I heard I hadn’t got the post I was hugely, and I mean hugely, relieved. What I learned was that my existing work / life balance was already pure gold, is the best, and I am more than satisfied. So I will play on, happy.

  1. My unexpected retirement left me with more options than I thought I would have. I’m glad you’re doing well. Paul
